XWA: Storm vs Phere - Loser Leaves BritWres

Posted by Phil Jones

XWA PRESS RELEASE

MAJOR BREAKING NEWS

LAST FIGHT AT THE PROM = LAST MATCH IN BRITISH WRESTLING!?!

Jonny Storm v Johnny Phere - Two out of Three Falls, Loser Leaves British Wrestling

'The Psychotic Warrior' Johnny Phere has challenged 'The Wonderkid' Jonny Storm to put his career in British Wrestling on the line this Saturday (September 6) at XWA Last Fight at the Prom...and Storm has accepted.

This shocking turn of events came about from an innocuous telephone conversation between an XWA website reporter and Johnny Phere on Monday afternoon, during which Phere completely went off the deep end and made this earth-shattering challenge.

Our man had called Phere on his mobile to get a comment ahead of this Saturday's Two out of Three Falls match at The Morecambe Dome against the former British Heavyweight Champion - his deadly rival Jonny Storm. But when our scribe - as an icebreaker to the conversation - innocently congratulated the lunatic on his recent highest-ever placing in the UKFF50 (the fans' list of the Top 50 wrestlers in Britain today) Phere responded with a psychotic tirade of abuse which led to him laying down the most incredible of gauntlets.

The reporter then called Jonny Storm to inform him of Phere's challenge and 'The Wonderkid' (who remember had to be reinstated by his peers in British wrestling after being defeated in a 'Loser Leaves FWA Match' at The Morecambe Dome in May 2004) said that in principle, he would put his career in the whole of British Wrestling on the line just to be rid of his obsessive stalker once and for all.

Matters continued to move thick and fast, as XWA owners Greg Lambert and Mark Kay travelled the country on Tuesday to conduct lengthy meetings with both Phere and Storm, to ensure they were 100% serious about putting their livelihoods at stake in a winner takes all match this Saturday. Neither man was willing to back down.

Contracts were then drawn up earlier today and were faxed back to the XWA office just after lunchtime, with both men's signatures agreeing that the loser of Saturday's match will actually leave the British Wrestling scene altogether.

We at the XWA have been left stunned by this astonishing sequence of events and will bring you the best possible coverage of what will be the last match in British Wrestling for either 'The Wonderkid' Jonny Storm or 'The Psychotic Warrior' Johnny Phere.

It seems British Wrestling is no longer big enough for the both of them.

STEVIE TO RETAIN, SAY THE FANS

A current poll at the XWA website is asking you the fans who will come out of Last Fight at the Prom as the British Heavyweight Champion. Will it be conniving champion Stevie Knight or the almost superhuman challenger Sam Slam?

Thus far, XWA fans clearly believe Stevie will have too much nouce and experience for the two-year pro Sam when they finally go one-on-one at ‘Last Fight’. At time of writing, over 70% of you think ‘The Shining Light’ will retain.

But we can tell you that Sam Slam has doubled his training regimen for this, the biggest match of his young career, and is determined not only to beat ‘The Grimsby Gob’ and strip him of his championship, but absolutely annihilate him in double-quick time.

The poll will remain open until later this week and you can vote at www.xwawrestling.com

TEAM XWA’S THIRD MAN? LIGERO STANDING BY

While Declan O'Connor's role at the upcoming Last Fight at the Prom show remains the subject of much speculation, former British Flyweight Champion El Ligero is standing by to be the third man in Joey Hayes' Team XWA on September 6.

'The UK Luchador' has made it clear that he wants to get his hands on The Firm at Last Fight at the Prom, and is more than willing to join Joey and Dirk Feelgood in the six-man tag against 'The Rock Star' Spud and The Kartel.

Ligero certainly has reason to want to enter the Dome for revenge on The Firm. Not only did Martin Stone piledrive him during The Firm's initial invasion at War On The Shore: The Anniversary Show, but then Stone and The Kartel cost the masked Mexican his British Flyweight Title at Vendetta, when Spud joined forces with the thugs from East London in order to take the cheap route to championship glory.

But as of yet, Ligero's participation in this match has not been confirmed. This is because Declan O'Connor is stubbornly insisting that he will be fit to be the third man in Team XWA.

Declan says his knee has recovered fully and he's never felt better, and because the team captain is his partner Joey Hayes, Joey has asked XWA management for special dispensation so they can decide on the night of Last Fight if it should be O'Connor or Ligero who completes Team XWA.

It is thought that Declan is trying to convince Joey that in a six-man tag team match - where Joey and Dirk can do the bulk of the work - O'Connor wrestling on his surgically-repaired knee will be less of a risk than in a straight tag or singles bout. Protected by his partners and fuelled by a desperate desire to prove himself, Declan could do exactly what he did at Vendetta and end up on the winning team thanks to a gutsy, adrenalin-fuelled performance.

But we understand that Joey is concerned for his partner's well-being - just like the 61% of XWA fans who voted in our recent poll to say that Declan should not wrestle on September 6. Hayes is worried that The Firm are far too dangerous a trio for O'Connor to be facing when less than 100%. And we tend to agree with him.

Declan got away with it at Vendetta, but this time the bullseye on his knee will be even more tempting for The Kartel and 'The Rock Star'. O'Connor could actually turn out to be a liability for his team. At best, he could end up letting his friend Joey Hayes, and ultimately the XWA, down. At worst, he could end up crippled for life.

So what will happen? Guess you'll have to be at The Morecambe Dome on September 6 to find out if it's El Ligero or Declan O'Connor in Team XWA. But one thing’s for sure. The Firm must be loving this situation. Absolutely loving it.
